TOWMA was founded in 1996 to serve as a parent organization for a large number of wildlife management associations and co-ops in south central Texas. TOWMA became a statewide organization in 1998. The purpose of TOWMA is to promote coordination between members of wildlife associations by providing a forum for exchange of ideas and information. This forum helps maintain interest among existing co-ops and provides support for establishment of new associations. TOWMA currently represents over 60 wildlife management associations in 33 counties of Texas. The number of landowners in these co-ops currently total more than 3,000 and control more than a million and a half acres of the Texas landscape.
In early 2007 the TOWMA Board of Directors voted to expand and enhance the role TOWMA plays in supporting Texas based wildlife management associations. This website was launched with the purpose of becoming the main communication tool and resource center for TOWMA members. In addition to the public site you are now visiting, there is a password protected area for the exclusive use of member association officers and select board members. This area provides many resources designed to share ideas and provide blueprints for effectively running local WMA's. Virtually all aspects of managing a WMA have been mastered by at least a few older WMA's, and our intent is to share those successes and how-tos to make of the work involved in running a successful WMA much easier.
As TOWMA grows and acquires new sources of funding the board intends to add full time staff to provide additional services in support of WMA's and wildlife and habitat in Texas. Together we make a difference today and in the future.
Mission:
To enhance the operations and effectiveness of Wildlife Management Associations through education, coordination and pursuit of issues resulting in enhanced land stewardship in Texas.
